Import images and create albums by Exif "DateTimeOriginal"?

Daniel-3
Hello all,

I'm about importing ~45.000 images into Digikam. When I import some from
the harddisk and use date-based album creation, the creation date of the
image is used for that. How is it possible to use the exif
DateTimeOriginal here?

Greetings,

Daniel

Sorry I use Rapid Photo Downloader for import because digiKam does not read metadata from video files but I found these tutorials:

https://scribblesandsnaps.com/2011/06/27/import-photos-in-digikam/
https://userbase.kde.org/Digikam/Import_Photos_in_Digikam/en

Hopefully it helps.

Best regards,

When you import pictures from a card or directly from the camera, the creation date of the file and the picture are the same. But, the creation date of the file is way faster to read. Because of this, the default behavior to digikam is to use the creation date of the file. You can change that:

Settings >> Configure Digikam >> Cameras >> Behavior

And mark: Use file metadata (makes connection slower)

This will solve your problem.

Gilles,

Here is what I got from the developer awhile ago:

"Between ExifTool and MediaInfo, I don't know which is most reliable in extracting video metadata. All I do know is that based on user reports, ExifTool sometimes gets it wrong e.g. with Sony HV400 files. MediaInfo is not perfect either. Consequently Rapid Photo Downloader uses the output of both:"

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~dlynch3/rapid/zeromq_pyqt/view/head:/raphodo/metadatavideo.py#L144

It seems to be working because video files go to correct folders for me.

Best regards,
Andrey
